I saw this quote today and found it motivating this morning. We have to WANT to make a difference in our lives before anything will actually change. Regardless of whether you're working towards losing weight, trying to stop an addiction, or just trying to make a small personal change for yourself...it has to be YOUR decision to change.
Today was Day 3 of the Ultimate Reset and I found the meals to be easier and I had less of my sweet cravings today. Today started with oatmeal and strawberries with no sweeteners other than the strawberries and their natural sugars. Without the strawberries I'm not sure I would have been able to eat the plain oatmeal. I started thinking about the Quaker oatmeal packets and how the plain oatmeal compared to the flavored packets. I usually have some of these packets at work in case I'm running late to work and don't have time for breakfast at the house. Looking at the Maple/Brown Sugar oatmeal compared to the plain oatmeal, the plain oatmeal had no sodium and a lot less sugar than the maple/brown sugar did. So while oatmeal is a healthier option than most sugary cereals on the market today, I may start trying to substitute the flavored kind with the plain and just add fruit to it for a natural sugar rather than processed sugars.
Lunch today was a lentil "salad" with carrots and just a few spices. I like lentils and carrots so I was looking forward to this meal. If you've never had lentils before, I highly recommend them. They are a great source of dietary fiber, lean protein, folate, and iron just to name a few of the benefits these little guys provide to your body.
Dinner...I was excited to try dinner today. I made sushi for the first time with carrots, cucumber, avocado, and tempeh...SO GOOD!!
I've never had tempeh before but knew it was supposed to be really healthy and has the same protein quality as meat. After dinner I researched it a little more and found out that it helps lower cholesterol (which runs high in my family), helps increase bone density, faster muscle recovery, and satisfies hunger. This meal will most DEFINITELY be added to my book going forward! Can't wait to make it again!
Here's a picture of my mom and I who helped me with the sushi rolls tonight. She was impressed with how good they were too.
Any questions so far? Let me know!
